At Julia’s House, Our Doors Are Always Open for Homeless
Minors, Adults, And Their Dependents Who Need Transitional
Housing

A Safe Landing for Those Aging Out of Foster Care

Julia’s House exists to support young adults who are aging out of foster care and stepping into adulthood without the safety net that so many others take for granted. We believe that no young person should navigate life’s biggest transitions alone.

At Julia’s House, we pair each young adult with a “Julia”—a compassionate mentor who steps in like a mother figure to provide guidance, emotional support, and access to essential resources. From job readiness and housing support to emotional wellness and life skills, we walk alongside our youth as they build a stable and hopeful future.

Our name honors the spirit of unconditional love. And our mission is rooted in the belief that healing, mentorship, and belonging can change the trajectory of a life.

When you support Julia’s House, you’re helping us ensure that every young adult leaving foster care has someone to call, somewhere to turn, and the tools to thrive.

We Don’t Want Any Child to Wait, So We Eliminated the Waiting Time

Whenever a person escapes an unpleasant situation, they can come to us — we’re their safe haven. Our doors will always be open for them. We will immediately provide them with transitional, short-term housing, until we can find them a family to take them in. Anyone who has evaded a bad situation — domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, or parental abandonment— can find a family in us.

No Child Deserves to Be on the Waiting List

We have opened our home and hearts to minors left without a home and family due to the state- provided services being unavailable or insufficient. Julia’s House also provides emergency shelter services, among other crisis intervention services. When you have nowhere to turn, you can always turn to us. Our core mission is to find permanent housing for children without parents. Our secure housing service finds a child a permanent family and a safe and loving environment to grow out of the trauma and become the best version of themselves.

We perform thorough background checks on every family that volunteers to take in a child to become part of their family permanently. We also offer transportation, counseling, child care, case management assistance, and housing and meals services.

Our transportation service enables minors to continue with their daily routine, such as going to school or participating in other activities. Certified counselors spend time with minors to assess their mental and physical health. We also assign a caseworker to every child who oversees their needs. We provide minors in need of housing a place to stay as well as daily meals, from breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Why Julia’s House Matters to Me – A Note from Sonya Hopson

As someone who grew up in a home shaped by abuse and limited resources, I know what it’s like to feel unseen, unprotected, and unsure of where to turn. But I also know the power of one person showing up with love, consistency, and belief in your worth.

Julia’s House was born out of that knowing.

It’s named in honor of the kind of woman every young person deserves—the kind who listens, encourages, advocates, and shows up again and again. Through my own journey of healing, and now as the author of Chasing Peace: The Tales of a Recovering Perfectionist, I’m committed to using my story to make sure others don’t walk alone.

A portion of the proceeds from my book will go directly to supporting the work we do at Julia’s House—because healing is bigger than one story. It’s a movement.
